Ezekiel gave us the 2 hour tour, and the other driver carried water bottles for those needing it along the way. Our group was actually two vans that meet up at the ruins.

The neat thing is that right next so some of the stairs, there was unexcavated mounds next to it and you can see ony imagine what the other unexcavated parts would look like, It was hot, but you are walking down very shaded pathways. Then the history lesson started with Ezekiel. They give you water and then drive for about 50 minutes down the straightest road I'd ever seen in an van with A/C.

It was an easy walk down two blocks to get to the meeting place, which was easy to find (thanks to instructions on how to leave the port, bypassing the maze of port vendors. However, the reviews seemed good, so we decided to take a chance. He was very informative and passionate about giving us as much information as he could.įirst off, this was our first excursion that we ever took that was not directly with a cruise ship, which made me nervous. Jesus then guided us to see the the reef and it's abundant sea life, including turtles, rainbow fish, parrot fish, and so much more. What a great tour with Ezekiel. Jesus 1 was so patient as we helped our youngest children, ages 9 and 11, adjust to the open water and their snorkel gear. Our guides were Jesus 1 and Jesus 2, and though they spoke very little English, I understood them to be both kind and gentle. We ended up settling on $30 pp and I'm glad we did - it was worth every penny.

We paid $4 pp plus tip for the taxi and $30 for a beach-front table, 4 chairs and 4 loungers under the canopy of palm trees.Īfter playing and snorkeling on Mahahual beach for a while, a man by the name of Miguel offered us a private snorkel excursion at the reef for $35 pp. Instead of booking an excursion through Royal Caribbean, we found a taxi at the Costa Maya port and asked them to take us to Mahahual. The reef in Mahahual MX gave us a show to remember - it was like floating through carefully designed and sculpted aquariums. It was especially thrilling to snorkel in open water with the kids for their 1st time. One of the most visceral experiences of our cruise excursion was swimming with sea turtles, and of course fish and coral in a rainbow of vivid colors. I didn’t have service on the beach either but that wasn’t a concern for me as I wanted to enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Minute drive and you will lose service on the way there. We could not find them at all and it took about 15-20 minutes of waiting to get found and then be taken to the beach. So I wish they weren’t there to have easier access to the beach but we made do! I will say that the only negative thing was finding the driver. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and my boyfriend got a pina colada, both were very good! The ocean was a little smelly but that’s because of the sargassum seawood that’s invaded a majority of the gulf, so it’s been pilling up on many beaches. The food is beyond divine, especially their guacamole. We also got a table to eat at and chairs to get sun in! We were right on the beach. It was a cute little area that had a comfortable outdoor bed and a wooden covering to get out of the sun. He was very kind and showed us around the beach and led us to where we would be relaxing.

I did a ton a research in picking my first ever excursion, it was my boyfriend and I’s first cruise together, after reading reviews I went ahead and booked with Hayhu and i’m so glad I did!!! As soon as we arrived we were instantly greeted by I believe the owner. Never want to see this place go under, it’s a must stop in Costa Maya if you want a relaxing day with absolutely everything taken care of. even opening up their family pool for everyone as well. Sad to see a bad batch of seaweed has been washing along shore that seems almost impossible to deal with, however the staff did their absolute best to rid of it, building a bridge out to the water so we could all enjoy the ocean. Extremely kind people, beautiful location, everything you could ever need as far as recreation and drinks, and the most AMAZING tacos served around lunch time. Just came back as a 24 year old and was happy to see the same family still in business. Visited the first time when I was around 10 years old and remembered my time here as the best day I’ve ever had with my little brothers. This place is an amazing hidden gem and I hope to come back someday. Don’t listen to those ranting about the (totally fine) “mile long walk” from port and “underdeveloped roads”. Made an account just to write this review.
